In Japan, I spent about 7.5 months in a Brazilian community called Ōizumi (大泉) where I did my best to pick up Portuguese. After my first 3 months, I was conversationally fluent.
Upon returning to the U.S., I tested out of the introductory Portuguese classes (12 credits worth) and took three more classes where the instruction was completely in Portuguese. To this day, I am still studying Portuguese.
I first came into touch with Python in 2016. I am familiar with most data science/statistical/machine learning packages such as Numpy, Pandas, Tensorflow/Karas, PyTorch, Matplotlib, seaborn, plotnine...
I also use Python for full stack web development using the framework Django.
I took a graduate database couse which involved working with relational databases, relational algebra, database design, and database application development. For the final project, I created an interactive terminal application and database using Java, JDBC, and MySQL. The project represents a university/college where you have students, courses, assignments, and grades. A video of me demonstrating this final project can be found here (in the video I did have a time limit so I do speak somewhat fast).
I had the amazing opportunity to work at Elyadata in Tunisia 🇹🇳 for six weeks. From the very first week, the experience was intense, as I worked on submitting two conference papers—one as the main author and another as a co-author with a fellow PhD student at Elyadata. I also had the chance to present my work and am hopeful that the rest of the work I did during my time there will lead to some great results!

After ICASSP in Seoul, I decided to take advantage of this time to go visit Japan too. As a part of my time here I got to meet members from Dr. Yamagishi's group at the National Institute of Informatics.
